Advanced Surgical Associates: Malik Michael MD at 530 New Waverly Place # 304, Cary, North Carolina.

I'm giving this center and dr. Malik 2 stars. The surgery I had was actually just fine. The cost is the reason for the low rating. I'd advise you to price shop, when I initially asked about costs it was a "don't worry, insurance covers it" talk. Let me detail the costs:

1. Office visit: $400, 15 minutes.
2. Hernia Repair (Outpatient): $22,000+ (thank god I already met my annual deductible, I pay *only* $1000, without meeting my deductible it would have been 6 or 7 thousand out of pocket!
3. Followup visit? Is this going to be another $400 bill? I guess we'll see.

The surgery lasted 1.5 hours. Think about that. $22,000+ for 1.5 hour surgery. Yes, there's anesthesia, yes, there's some high tech scopes and equipment, and at least 2 nurses in employ. But $22,000?? Do these meds wipe their asses with gold? I don't know if these costs are a direct reflection of the practice, or WakeMed affiliates. It's unsettling to say the least. My wife just had a baby at wake med and was in labor for 40 hours. stayed an extra 2 days. total cost was $10,000 ($800 out of pocket pre-deductible). I have great insurance through work as well. Just shop these guys around. They need to be more competitive.
